Shared Farming: Building Community Through Nature
A New Community Born Through Shared Farming: Prime Dream’s Initiative
As urbanization continues, unused farmland is increasingly left unattended. However, the vast lands of Hokkaido still hold untapped potential. To harness this potential, the nonprofit organization Prime Dream has taken the initiative to lease unused farmland with the goodwill of landowners and launched a shared farming project.
First-Time Farming Adventures
On the 300-tsubo (approximately 990 square meters) plot leased by Prime Dream, around 30 varieties of vegetables are being cultivated. Many participants in this project are new to farming, and they are enjoying the experience, inspired by their desire to grow and taste specific vegetables they have always wanted to try. Despite being beginners, the participants are embracing the challenge, discovering the joys of farming along the way.
Harvest Festival: A Gathering of New Bonds
As part of the project, a harvest festival was held. The festival brought together participants who had been working on the farm, allowing them to celebrate the fruits of their labor by harvesting the vegetables they grew themselves. The harvest festival became more than just an event; it was a place where a new community was formed. Through their work on the farm, people who had once been strangers came together as a team, collaborating in nature and building rich, meaningful relationships.
A New Future Woven by Nature and People
This shared farming initiative is not just about producing crops; it’s about reconnecting people with the joy of living in harmony with nature and revitalizing the local community. By making use of previously unused land and encouraging participants to actively engage in agriculture, this project provides a space where people can rediscover the greatness of nature and their intrinsic connection to it.
Prime Dream’s shared farming project, set against the backdrop of Hokkaido’s abundant natural beauty, is a significant endeavor that allows people to experience the joy of living alongside nature while paving the way for a new future. It is hoped that such initiatives will spread throughout the community, offering more people the opportunity to connect with the natural world.
